Portals Project - Choose Contentment!

Welcome to Portals Projects! Each week we share projects that foster community building, creative thinking, problem-solving and character development. Invite your student(s) to pick a project that interests them to work on for a day or a week. Encourage them to share their plans, products or performances with the Portals community so we can all celebrate and grow together.


Week 28 - Contentment

Philippians 4:12-13  I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.



The Quest for Contentment

The World is always seeking happiness but what they really need is contentment which is only found in Christ. Design a text adventure where players are on a quest to find happiness but they can’t really win until they find contentment using Google forms or Scratch!


Contentment Cipher

Learn or invent your own cipher. Then hide messages written in code around the room. Then see how long it takes players to find or figure out your cipher and solve all the clues to contentment.


Contentment Container Challenge (Destination Imagination)

Challenge: Create one tall structure that fits in a variety of containers.


Materials: 

Five containers: A plastic drinking glass, a plastic bottle, a shoe, a small empty box, and an envelope


Building materials: 1 sheet of paper, 4 straws, 2 mailing labels or 3 inches (7.6 cm) of tape, 4 paper clips, measuring tape (for measuring purposes only)


Notes: Using the materials listed above, create the tallest structure possible that will sit inside each of the containers.

The structure must sit inside the container and not touch anything other than the container.

The structure may be placed inside the containers in any order you wish but may not be changed to sit inside other containers. For example, if your structure fits inside the small box but does not fit inside the water bottle, you may not redesign your structure.


Complain Drain

I’ve noticed that I complain a lot. I complain when things seem unfair. I complain when things are hard. I complain when things don’t go my way.  My friends and family have started to spend less time around me. How can I stop complaining ?


Toy

Imagine you are an explorer and you have discovered a new land. You observe a toddler boy playing with a spinning toy. Make your own replica of the toy to share with kids back in your homeland.  It can be as realistic or fantastical as you want.
