Portals Projects - Offer Hospitality!

Welcome to Portals Projects! Each week we share projects that foster community building, creative thinking, problem-solving and character development. Invite your student(s) to pick a project that interests them to work on for a day or a week. Encourage them to share their plans, products or performances with the Portals community so we can all celebrate and grow together.

Week 25 -Kindness and Hospitality

1 Peter 4:8-9 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.  Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.

Map Kindness

Make or print a map that includes all the places you will go in the next week. Then as you go about your week identify an act of kindness and do an act of kindness of your own in each location. At the end of the week, pick one of the most loving acts of kindness and post it on the Citizen Science project - Map Kindness.

The  Unlucky Leprechaun

Challenge: Design three hats using the materials below. Use your hats as costumes for a skit based on the Good Samaritan story. Your performance must include a leprechaun.

Materials per hat:  1 paper plate, 2 sheets of paper, 4 chenille stems, 4 craft sticks, 8 inches of tape, crayons

Time:  15  minutes to make your hats. 10 minutes to perform.

Hospital Hospitality

While I was visiting my dad in the hospital, I saw a lot of people who were either scared or bored. What could I bring with me next time to help them?

Solution Criteria:

  • Must fit in a shoebox or small cloth bag

  • Shouldn’t cost more than $10 total

Greeting Gesture

Imagine you are an explorer and you have discovered a new land. You and your team have left one group of inhabitants and after traveling a few days, you encounter some new inhabitants of this new land. You greet them with the greeting you learned from the first people you met. Draw a depiction of the greeting or record a video of it for future visitors.  It can be as realistic or fantastical as you want.
