Portals Projects - Pray Constantly!

Welcome to Portals Projects! Each week we share projects that foster community building, creative thinking, problem-solving and character development. Invite your student(s) to pick a project that interests them to work on for a day or a week. Encourage them to share their plans, products or performances with the Portals community so we can all celebrate and grow together.

Week 31 - Prayerfulness

1 Thess. 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in everything; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Renew and Refresh

Sometimes we let the chaos of life keep us from having regular conversations with people in our lives or we get into a habit of having the same conversations over and over again until they are meaningless. Prayer is how we talk to God and we can let the same things happen to our prayer life if we aren’t intentional.  Renew and refresh your community and personal prayer routines by learning more about prayer, finding a new prayer, trying a new type of prayer, singing a new prayer song, or recommitting a time to pray.

Partner  in Prayer

Invent a partnership prayer challenge by picking a topic/focus, time frame, method of praying together and creative way to display requests and/or answers to prayer. Example: Going to pray for 13 minutes each day for 50 days for our country. Each day pray for the needs of one of the states and then color that state on a printed outline.

Prayer and Praise Photos

Challenge:  Look through your family pictures and look for photos that represents a prayer and picture that represents answers to prayer. How many pairs can you find? Example: Someone in the hospital and that person out of the hospital. Find a way to display the photos and add to them as you continue to see answered prayers.

Materials:  Photos

Public Prayer

My friend just started coming to church with me and she wants to pray out loud during group prayer, but she always feels uncertain about what to say.  Can you invent an acronym that would give her a pattern to follow and give two examples of prayers that follow that pattern?

Example: How to use a fire extinguisher

PASS

Pull the pin

Aim at the base of the fire

Squeeze the handle or lever

Sweep from side to side

Storm

Imagine you are an explorer and you have discovered a new land.  You are traveling when suddenly a storm hits. Create an experiment or demonstration of the storm. It can be as realistic or fantastical as you want.
