Welcome to Portals Projects! Each week we share projects that foster community building, creative thinking, problem-solving and character development. Invite your student(s) to pick a project that interests them to work on for a day or a week. Encourage them to share their plans, products or performances with the Portals community so we can all celebrate and grow together.
Week 35 - Humility
Philippians 2:5-8
In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
Shadow of the Valley of Death
Watch Memorial Day. Make your own shadow performance or images that tell a story of someone who has passed away or illustrate a patriotic song or poem.
Towel List
Have you ever heard of a bucket list? How about a towel list? Instead of making a list of things you wish to experience or do in your life, make a list of experiences you wish to provide for others. Example: Bucket list - Earn a million dollars; Towel list - Donate a million dollars. Turn your list into a Hope Board
Mini Memorial
Challenge: Using materials you have on hand, create a famous memorial. You may choose from the list below or research one of your own.
Crazy Horse
Memorial Bell
Mount Rushmore
Statue of Liberty
Vietnam Veterans Memorial
Lincoln Memorial
Bunker Hill Monument
Standing Soldiers
Exalts the Lowly
Recognize someone who served humbly. Design a memorial or tribute for them. You might decorate a stone or make a picture to lay at someone's grave or you might compose a poem or song that remembers their service.
Monument
Imagine you are an explorer and you have discovered a new land. As you are traveling your team comes across a unique structure. Your guide explains that it is a monument to remember a significant event in their history. Draw or make a model of the moment.
